AKESIA WHOLE HEALTH FORUM

Akesia Whole Health Forum - Nature as Healer

The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers:
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!

William Wordsworth
Come learn about a range of topics on the power of nature to heal at the Akesia 'Nature as Healer' Forum in Santa Fe. What better place to learn about the power of reconnecting with nature than against the backdrop of New Mexico, known the world over for its stunning beauty.

Nature deficit disorder, a phrase coined by Richard Louv in his 2005 book Last Child in the Woods embraces the notion that human beings, especially children, are spending less time outdoors resulting in a wide range of behavioral problems. Nature Deficit Disorder is not a medical condition though its affects can often lead to undesireable cognitive, emotional and behavioral symptoms — it describes our lack of a relationship to the environment and the human costs of alienation from the natural world. It can be harmful to our children, our families, our communities, and our environment.  Luckily, the cure starts in our own backyards and in this series, you will learn ways to integrate some practices into your everyday life. And hopefully, with the experience of a deeper re-connection with nature we will strengthen environmental values and forge a path toward a passion to conserve it.

Research shows that for the first time in history,  the majority of the more than 7 billion people on Earth live in urban areas, with the trend toward exodus from rural to urban showing no signs of slowing. The Akesia 'Nature as Healer' Forum is meant to help reassess how we live our lives in light of what scientists are telling us about the unhealthy physical and psychological effects of our disconnection from intimacy with nature. Join us in various locations, both indoors and outdoors, to learn more about the perils of Nature Deficit Disorder and explore ways in which to find a healthy balance between our built and natural environments.

A Brief Overview of Naturopathy
Health involves regularly re-examining our lives on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual basis, reviewing our experiences and deciding what we need and want. In this review we determine what we wish to experience and how we might facilitate changes that bring about the desired results. Most of us have never done this on a conscious and/or regular basis. In Naturopathy, (the practice of natural healing) we help you to examine and discover what is occurring in all aspects of your life that may have an influence on your health. We help you discover and determine what your goals and priorities are, and empower you through education, treatment, and self-management.

Akesia Whole Health Forum - Art as Therapy

Art is a powerful tool for making complex ideas simple and facilitating easy, non-verbal communication around abstract ideas. Art, and the process of making it, must be preserved as a communication tool essential to healthy child development. Recognizing art as a valid communication tool for adults can help galvanize meaningful discussion about the ideas and values that shape our lives.

Akesia Whole Health Forum - Zhong Yuan Qigong

This Friday night session is open to those who want to learn more about this ancient Chinese art of healing and spiritual development, steeped in Shamanic, Taoist, and Buddhist traditions. This meditation-based energy practice combines gentle movement, breath, and mindful awareness to activate, store and focus energy. It teaches us to stimulate creativity, develop intuition, and understand our place in and connection to the Universe. At higher levels, it teaches a method of dialogue with the information and energy of the surrounding Universe.

Info session Friday night: Suggested Donation $10 - if the course has space available, workshop continues Sat the 7th from 10am-6pm, Sun the 8th from 10am-5pm at same location. Cost: $200 per workshop. If the workshop is sold out there is a possibility of holding another program over the Thanksgiving weekend.

We are indeed fortunate to have these practitioners here in this part of the country to teach this ancient form. Zhong Yuan (ZY) Qigong originated in China over 7,000 years ago. Using simple, gradually evolving movements, breathing and meditation, ZY Qigong brings people into a profound state of release by changing patterns in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual being spontaneously. ZY Qigong is uniquely suited to relieve stress, to boost the immune, respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and to increase the body's innate healing abilities.
